1 Peter 5:7
“Casting the whole of your care on Him, for He cares for you affectionately.”
There should be no such thing as stress for a Christian. It’s not “normal” in Christ, therefore it shouldn’t be considered normal in our lives. When flooded with things that life brings to us all, our response should come out of a rooted relational place in God. Our perspective of life is through the eyes of Jesus and when we walk in the light as He is in the light, we don’t stumble because we can see beyond man’s vision. Our eye is single (Matthew 6:22-23) for Him alone which causes us to know His will, His way and His heart in every situation. Our calling is to know Him and display Him that He be glorified. If we are in Him, then so are all of our problems! Therefore, we don’t have a problem. We just get to shine with Him. Every problem is another opportunity to know Him more. And if I’m not alive for myself, then life has no button to push to bring me into stress and anxiety.
The word “care” in the above scripture means divided mind. We know that the mind set on the Spirit brings life and peace (Romans 8:6-8) and that a double minded man is unstable in all his ways (James 1:8). Therefore, a divided mind means we are anxious because we are not solid in truth. Our “eye” is not single and our mind is not single which leads to stress. We are possibly in fear and trying to apply faith at the same time. But if we continually live in God’s perspective, then “cares” would never attach to us. They would never develop into anxiety or stress. Our lifestyle would be one of constant peace and confident faith regardless of circumstances. Intimacy with God gives birth to these things.
The fact that we are called “aliens and strangers in this world” should remind us that our lives are supposed to look so different that we don’t look like we fit or belong here. Our lives should reveal a different “normal” so the world is astonished and wonders where we came from! Christ didn’t know stress and neither should we for He is our example. Let’s not make allowances for stress when it’s possible to live through Him in a higher life!
