Happy are the people whose God is the Lord! (Ps. 144:15)

Some time ago I had the opportunity to speak at a TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party gathering along with Congresswoman Michele Bachmann and several other speakers. In this article I will summarize what I shared at that gathering.

One of the priorities of America from its founding has been to protect the right of citizens in their pursuit of happiness. The freedom to pursue happiness doesn’t guarantee that we’ll find it. Many look for happiness in all the wrong places. We find happiness by giving God His rightful place. Psalms 144:15 says, Happy are the people whose God is the Lord! If America is going to continue to protect people’s freedom to pursue happiness, and happiness comes from giving God His rightful place, then America  must protect its citizen’s rights to pursue and obey God.

There are two things America needs from its political leaders. First, we need our leader to seek God’s will in every decision. Proverbs 14:34 says, Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a reproach to any People. Secondly, we need our leaders to live righteous lives. Proverbs 29:2 says, When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan.

These were the things that were important to the founding fathers of this nation. As we exercise our constitutional right to pursue happiness, let’s acknowledge that true happiness comes from giving God His rightful place in our lives, communities, state and nation. On the authority of God’s Word, I call for a return to personal righteousness in the lives of every citizen and every political leader – a righteousness that is only found through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. God bless you, and God bless America!
